Marquette Companies has named Trevor Ryan partner and president of Marquette Companies, while Jim Cunningham has been appointed partner and president of Marquette Management. Additionally, Jason Tennenbaum has joined the organization as chief financial officer.

Colliers announced that veteran investment sales broker Tom O’Brien has joined Colliers as a vice chair, partnering with Colliers’ Investment Services Group in Minneapolis-St. Paul. With his arrival, Colliers adds one of the market’s most well-known and experienced investment sales professionals to its business. 

Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has expanded its real estate capabilities with the addition of Daniel J. Elrod as a shareholder in its Chicago office. Elrod joins the firm from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, and with more than a dozen years of legal experience, he represents debt funds, life insurance companies, and institutional lenders in a wide range of commercial real estate transactions nationwide.

Lee & Associates has negotiated a 30,300-square-foot new lease at 20 Presidential Drive in Roselle, Illinois. Jeff Janda, SIOR and Mike Plumb, principals at Lee & Associates’ Illinois office, represented Tripar International, Inc, who owns and occupies the rest of the 63,978-square-foot industrial building. David Haigh of NAI Hiffman represented the tenant, Rieder NA, a manufacturer of concrete facades.  

Chicago Title Land Trust Company has officially rebranded as The Land Trust Company. This change reflects the company’s expansion beyond Chicago, with a growing presence in Indiana and Florida and plans for nationwide growth.

Cushman & Wakefield said Wednesday it had appointed Robert Thornburgh, SIOR, CCIM, FRICS as regional president of the Southwest Region, including Southern California, Nevada, Phoenix, Colorado, Utah and Idaho. Based in Los Angeles, Thornburgh will oversee Cushman & Wakefield’s strategic growth of the Southwest, including client service delivery, talent development and recruiting, while developing strong partnerships across the firm’s service lines.

Thornburgh reports to Victoria Malkin, president, Americas Markets for Cushman & Wakefield. “We are thrilled to welcome Robert to Cushman & Wakefield as he takes on this important leadership role,” said Malkin. “His significant experience and expertise of brokerage operations and the fundamentals of our industry combined with his service-oriented approach to clients will help propel our business forward, in the Southwest and across the Americas.”

Before joining Cushman & Wakefield, Thornburgh served as the chief executive of Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), the world’s premier organization for industrial and office brokers with more than 4,000 members. While at the helm of SIOR, Thornburgh developed a strategic plan that improved member retention, increased membership and elevated brand recognition throughout the industry.

Greenstone Partners, a commercial real estate brokerage firm, has expanded its brokerage team with Jacob Goldstein, as Director. Since becoming a licensed broker in 2016, Goldstein has been involved in $100+ million of multifamily and mixed-use transactions throughout the Chicagoland area, with property sizes ranging from six to 100 units. Prior to joining Greenstone Partners, Goldstein spent eight years at Essex Realty Group, where he advanced to the role of Director.

Intersect Illinois announced that Eileen Mitchell, President of Midwest States at AT&T, and Kristof Terryn, CEO of Zurich North America, have joined its board of directors. Mitchell leads external affairs across seven states and heads the company’s policy, philanthropy, and community initiatives. Terryn was named CEO of Zurich North America in 2021 after joining the company in 2004. He has held positions including COO for General Insurance, Group Head Operations, CEO of Global Life, and CEO of General Insurance.

Redwood Living, Inc. recently joined together with representatives from Perkins Township and the Greater Sandusky Partnership to celebrate the opening of Redwood Sandusky in Sandusky, Ohio.  Developed and managed by Independence-based Redwood, the neighborhood includes 136 single-story apartment homes ranging in size from 1,294 to 1,620 square feet.   

Marcus & Millichap completed the sale of a Golden Corral location in Schererville, Indiana, for $4.47 million. The firm’s Sean Sharko, Austin Weisenbeck and Daniel Chumbley, investment specialists in Marcus & Millichap’s Chicago Oak Brook office, had the exclusive listing to market the property on behalf of the seller, a local Chicago real estate investment company, and procured the buyer, an out of state real estate partnership. Josh Caruana, Broker of Record in Indiana, assisted in closing the transaction.

Multiple groups bid Thursday for the unfinished Oceanwide Plaza mixed-use development in Downtown Los Angeles, which was forced into bankruptcy in February of this year, Connect CRE has learned. An auction is scheduled for mid-September. 

Industry sources familiar with the sale process told Connect that AEG Worldwide was rumored to be the front runner and had gone as far as retaining the project’s original architect. The development site is proximate to AEG’s LA Live and Crypto.com Arena, which have faced strong competition from the Hollywood Park mega-development in nearby Inglewood. However, AEG was not among the bidders who submitted offers on Thursday. 

A key hurdle that any buyer would need to surmount is the question of financing: not so much to acquire the project, but rather to finish construction on it. The project has been appraised as-is at $434 million by Colliers as part of the Oceanwide Plaza bankruptcy proceedings. Completing the three-tower residential, retail and hotel complex could mean spending twice that amount. 

In July, a mystery bidder surfaced who offered to serve as a stalking horse for the upcoming auction. The bidder offered to take control of the property for $500 million if no more compelling bids emerged, according to published reports. It’s not clear whether the stalking-horse bidder is still participating.

Work on the project at 1100-1198 S. Flower St. was halted in 2020 after the project’s developer, China Oceanwide, ran out of funding. The bankruptcy was initiated by creditors who hadn’t been paid for their work, including construction manager Lendlease. 

In May, a Colliers team led by EVP Mark Tarczynski and a Hilco Real Estate team led by EVP Jeffrey Azuse were hired to spearhead the sale and potential completion of Oceanwide Plaza. The project, one of the largest stalled developments in the U.S., made headlines earlier this year when taggers covered much of it with graffiti.

Lee & Associates announced that Brandon Pappas has joined the firm as vice president of data analytics and business development. In this role, Pappas will oversee all of the firm’s research initiatives and spearhead data-driven market analysis. Prior to joining Lee & Associates, Brandon worked at CoStar Group, Data & Analytics. He also has experience as a licensed commercial real estate broker.

The Missner Group (TMG), a Chicago-based general contractor and real estate developer, has appointed Jeremy Weisbach as the new director of asset management. Weisbach will oversee and manage the success of TMG’s real estate assets, focusing on portfolio management, financial oversight, lease management, acquisitions, and dispositions while mitigating risk. Before joining TMG, he held key positions at Dalfen Industrial, EXPANSIVE, and Newcastle Limited.

Friedman Real Estate’s Marc Hames recently completed the sale of properties at 8891 Pulaski Road, a 2,500-square-foot asset, and 12584 Wooden Road, a 25,000-square-foot building, in Michigan. Friedman represented the owner in these two cannabis receivership transactions.

Clayco has achieved an Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of 0.40. EMR is a number used to measure how safe a company is compared to others in the same industry. “Safety is our first priority at Clayco. JLL has hired Kristen Vosmaer as a managing director for its growing Data Center Work Dynamics business. In this role, Vosmaer is responsible for data center growth initiatives, building strong relationships and guiding high-performing teams dedicated to delivering exceptional client experiences.

Bradford Allen has added Angela Burnett, LEED AP, as director of operations, and Sean Kenny, as director of engineering, to the company’s management services business. They will work out of the firm’s downtown Chicago headquarters. Burnett will work with on-site property management teams on operational processes, efficiencies, delivery of high-level tenant experience and execution of capital projects. Kenny will work across the same portfolio, leading on-site property management, engineering and maintenance teams on building procedures and overseeing operations and maintenance of all plumbing, electrical, mechanical, structural and life safety equipment and systems.

Matterhorn Venture Partners (MVP) announced the addition of real estate private equity veteran Tina Ramos as Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer. As a co-founder alongside Scott McKibben and Matt Kay, Ramos will be responsible for building out MVP’s network of capital sources and for creating and implementing business lines. During her career, Tina has capitalized over $7 billion of real estate. Previously, she served as CIO of The Missner Group and as an SVP of Pacific Coast Capital Partners.

Hilco Redevelopment Partners, a subsidiary of Hilco Global, has changed its name to HRP Group (HRP). The change is part of a rebranding effort in anticipation of a spinoff from Hilco Global in the coming months. HRP is a vertically integrated, multi-strategy real estate investment firm specializing in complex redevelopment projects.

BWE, a Cleveland-based commercial and multifamily mortgage banking company, has secured two loans totaling $70,900,000 to refinance Accent Southrail, a 304-unit, mid-rise multifamily development in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sedgefield Apartments, a 280-unit multifamily development in Marietta, Georgia.
