Wellstar Planning $300M Hiram Expansion
Wellstar Health System plans to build an eight-story tower to add 56 beds. That’s a 50% increase in its current bed count. The company says it will cost $304 million to expand its hospital at its Paulding County campus.
Wellstar is one of the state’s largest healthcare systems. The Hiram facility opened at Hwy. 278 and Bill Carruth Parkway in April 2014, with 56 beds and 40 emergency exam rooms and an emergency department, cancer center, women’s imaging and surgical and other healthcare services. Soon after it was built, it operated regularly at 90% of the facility’s capacity.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports the new tower will be connected to and integrated with the existing WellStar Paulding Hospital and adjacent buildings. The project will include renovations.
Construction could begin next year, and the new tower could be usable by 2028.
