Milan Capital Management and Arc Capital Partners said dd’s DISCOUNTS, a value-focused retailer, will join the tenant roster at The Plant Shopping Center in San Jose. The new 18,045-square-foot store will be located at the prominent intersection of Curtner Avenue and Monterey Road, filling a long-vacant space. 

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome dd’s DISCOUNTS to The Plant,” said Chris Nichelson, president of Milan Capital Management, which acquired the shopping center with Arc Capital last summer. “This addition further strengthens our vision of transforming The Plant into a vibrant, high-traffic retail destination.”

Scheduled to open its doors in June 2025, dd’s DISCOUNTS will occupy a prime location between Vallarta Supermarkets (planned opening in 2026) and Target. This strategic positioning is expected to drive significant foot traffic, reinforcing The Plant’s position as a key retail destination for the San Jose community.

Will Bryson of Atlantic Retail represented ownership, while Carol Therien of Retail Pacific represented dd’s DISCOUNTS.

Partners Real Estate has brought on Atlanta Land Sales brokers Matt Hawkins, Pierce Owings, and Sarah Morgan. Their role is to grow the firm’s land sales practice in Atlanta.

Since opening in June 2024, the company’s newest office is now more than 20 brokers strong and boasts expertise across the gamut of commercial real estate offerings, including Office Tenant Representation, Office Agency Leasing, Industrial Services, Development, and now Land.

Hawkins , who came from Cushman & Wakefield, arranged over $2 billion in transactions, and facilitated the land sales for projects that shaped the region such as Truist Park, The Battery, and Rowen to name a few.

Pierce Owings, who also came from Cushman & Wakefield, joins as an Equity Partner. Owings delivered sites now home to Madison Yards and 99 West Paces.

Sarah Morgan will serve as Senior Associate. Sarah joined the land team in 2023 after working as a Senior Consultant at Deloitte.

Kidder Mathews has hired Will Ballowe as a VP in Pleasanton. With nearly a decade of experience, Ballowe specializes in representing office landlords and tenants across San Francisco’s East Bay market.

The company said Ballowe has a proven track record assisting a diverse clientele, from dynamic start-ups to established corporations, in navigating complex leasing and sales transactions to maximize market opportunities. He launched his brokerage career at Lee & Associates and was with Newmark before joining Kidder Mathews.

Private equity real estate developer DJM said its mixed-use residential development and shopping center, Bella Terra in Huntington Beach, has opened a new tenant, beauty brand Madison Reed. The retailer opened its 89th Hair Color Bar location at Bella Terra. 

Madison Reed is the latest addition to Bella Terra joining the other new tenants added last year including Philz Coffee, Fogo De Chao, Jan’s Health Bar, Snooze AM Eatery, The Golf Bar, and Sender One. Last year, DJM and partner PGIM secured the approval of plans by Huntington Beach’s City Council for Bella Terra’s new, mixed-use residential development.

The project includes the demolition of an existing 149,000-square-foot structure currently occupied by Burlington Coat Factory and an adjacent 33,00 square-foot retail commercial building. This will then be replaced with a low-rise building offering 25,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurants beneath five stories holding 300 residential dwelling units and residential amenity spaces.

Jackson Hsieh will become the president and CEO of The Macerich Company on March 1, following the retirement of Thomas O’Hern after 30 years of service to the company. Concurrent with O’Hern’s retirement, president Edward Coppola will also retire from Macerich.

O’Hern will serve as an advisor to the Santa Monica-based company through June 30, to ensure a smooth transition. Hsieh’s appointment as president and CEO follows an extensive search process by the board with the assistance of recruitment firm Ferguson Partners.

Most recently, Jackson was the president & CEO of Spirit Realty Capital where he led the successful merger of Spirit with Realty Income Corporation through an all-stock transaction valued at an enterprise value of approximately $9.3 billion.

Prior to Spirit, Jackson spent over 25 years in global lodging and real estate investment banking, having successful careers at a number of prestigious investment banks.”
