Eastside Trail Developer Adding 780 Apartments

New City is asking Metro Atlanta for permission to include 780 new apartments in its $1 billion Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail project. There is no timeline for when the project will begin. The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports New City will wait until the market is more amenable to lending for apartment projects.

New City LLC would add two residential buildings to the project, which it calls Fourth Ward. Mailchimp’s headquarters anchor it, and it includes a boutique hotel and apartment tower.

The new apartment buildings, which make up the final phase of the project, would cover about 4 acres, replacing an existing parking lot, a temporary dog park, New City’s offices, and the former Venkman’s, a restaurant and music venue. Architectural firm Barkow Leibinger will design New City’s residential buildings. New City is set to go soon before the Beltline’s Design Review Committee for its final phase.
